DO YOUR BIT

Posted by Unknown at 10:18 AM

A boy visited a beach one day. He discerned that with every tide coming across the shore, some fishes appeared and were struck in sand as the tide went back. They were writhing in pain for some time and finally dying. The boy distressed about the happening, started to pick fishes one by one and flung them back into the sea. Some people went by and guffawed at him. But he continued. One man probed “O boy! There are thousands of fishes on the shore, what difference will throwing some of them back make?” The boy retorted “I can’t help every single fish, but I am doing my bit. Somewhere somebody else must be doing the same and saving some more fishes, so let us do what we can do”.
In today’s scenario when every individual is concerned about himself and no heed is paid to others; we often fail to become self-centred when we actually ought to. We have procured this propensity of cribbing about everything ensuing around. What we don’t comprehend is that we are also responsible for anything depraved happening in some or the other way. If we are so self-centred, then why can’t we take the responsibility and beget the difference we desire to have.
As the saying goes “be the change that you wish to see the most in your world.”
To possess a perfect world, everybody needs to do what he needs to do. Revolutions do not occur in a moment or two. Analogously we cannot transform everything in one day. But small actions can lead to big results. We should swot the concept of working from the “area of control”. We only have the power to control our deeds and we should make the most of it. What others do is only the “area of concern” where we can hardly make any difference.
Another issue why we don’t take ownership is the fear of the opinions of those inhabiting around and gleefully watching the show. Keeping faith in ourselves, we should always reminisce that if we have done right(for the betterment of others), we have done well, though alone; if wrong, the sanction of all mankind will not justify our act.
Norman Cousins has very well stated:
“The tragedy of life is not death, but what we let die inside of us while we live.”
So wake up and just do it.
